Climate neutral printing means the carbon emissions generated by your print order are offset.Print products are rendered climate neutral in three steps:
> Calculation of the emissions from the print product
We have calculated the relevant carbon emissions of our print shop, reduced them as much as possible, and can calculate the emissions generated by individual print runs.
> Offsetting the emissions
Print products are climate neutral when their carbon footprint has been calculated and offset. Emissions are offset via internationally recognized carbon offset projects – like a hydropower project in Indonesia or a forest conservation project in Kenya.
> Product labeling and process transparency
You obtain full transparency thanks to the climate neutral label featuring a unique ID for your order linked to all the information on the emissions generated by your printed items and the carbon offset project you are supporting.
Processes and products are termed climate neutral when their carbon emissions have been calculated and offset by supporting recognized carbon offset projects. In addition to avoidance and reduction, offsetting carbon emissions represents an important step in comprehensive climate protection.
By purchasing climate neutral products, you are contributing to global climate protection and supporting recognized carbon offset projects.
The climate neutral label on your print products shows your commitment to climate protection and increases the credibility of your sustainability strategy.
The carbon offset projects are audited and certified according to international standards and demonstrably reduce emissions. Additional peace of mind is guaranteed by the TÜV Austria certification for the process ClimatePartner uses for offsetting carbon emissions.
Experience has shown that the carbon offset for your climate neutral print products costs about an additional 1 to 2 percent.
Carbon offset projects must meet internationally recognized standards. The most important criteria here are:
It must be ensured that the project can only be realized if it receives additional financing through emissions trading. This means the project must be reliant upon emissions trading in order to cover its financial needs.
> Exclusion of double counting
It must be ensured that the carbon emissions saved are only counted once by the certificate owner. This means that certificates may only be sold once and then have to be retired.
Emissions savings must take place permanently. For example, carbon sequestration in forests must be long-term in nature. A reforested area that is turned back into a livestock pasture through slash-and-burn farming a few years later cannot receive recognition as a carbon offset project.
> Auditing on a regular basis by independent third parties
Carbon offset projects must be audited in regular intervals according to the criteria listed above. Independent third parties such as TÜV, SGS, or PwC perform these audits. Audits like these retroactively determine the actual volume of carbon emissions saved.
